QoBot, a part-time vCISO or compliance software?
Three ways to get security work done without a full-time CISO. They solve different problems, and sometimes the right answer is two of them. Here's a fair comparison.
At a glance
| QoBot | Part-time vCISO | Compliance software | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | An AI agent that acts as your CISO, in a desktop app, using your own AI | A human security expert shared with other companies, a few days a month | A platform that tracks controls and evidence for a framework such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2 |
| Who does the work | QoBot writes the plan, the policies and the answers; your team applies them | The vCISO advises and writes within the contracted days; your team applies | The tool tracks tasks; your team or a consultant decides and writes |
| Availability | Whenever you open it | On the contracted days, with agreed response times | Any time, as a tool |
| Judgment | Reasons from your workspace and its CISO knowledge, and says when it doesn’t know | Human judgment, experience across clients, relationships | Rules and checklists; the judgment stays with you |
| Accountability | Not a person: you decide and sign | A named professional under a service contract | The vendor answers for the software, not for your decisions |
| Evidence | Lists what’s needed, never invents it | Collects and reviews it with you | Often collects it automatically through integrations |
| Cost model | Free desktop app, you pay your AI provider; Cloud and Team paid, later | Billed per day or as a monthly retainer | Subscription, often by company size and number of frameworks |
When a part-time vCISO fits better
Pick a human when you need a named person in the room: a board that wants to question someone, a regulator, a large customer’s security team, an auditor to negotiate with. Pick a human for a crisis that needs authority over people, and for judgment calls that depend on politics, history and relationships. A good vCISO brings experience from many companies; QoBot doesn’t replace that.
When compliance software fits better
Pick a compliance platform when you’re heading for a certification with many controls and want evidence collected from your tools continuously. It shines at tracking: who owns which control, what’s overdue, which evidence is missing. It assumes someone knows what to do and writes the documents.
When QoBot fits
QoBot fits when nobody owns security today, or when the people who do have no time for the routine: the questionnaire due Friday, the policy nobody wrote, the plan nobody follows up. It does the CISO’s work every day, in plain words, and gives your team short, explained next steps. It’s honest about what’s still open.
Having two of them
They cover different parts of the job. QoBot alongside a vCISO lets the expert’s days go to judgment while the routine gets done in between. QoBot alongside a compliance platform: QoBot decides and writes, the platform tracks and stores.
Limits, said plainly
QoBot is not a lawyer, an auditor or an incident response firm. It doesn’t certify anything and doesn’t promise outcomes. It gets you ready, documents what’s in place, and tells you when to bring in a human. Whoever does the work, management stays accountable: NIS2 says so explicitly for the organisations it covers (article 20).
FAQ
Does QoBot replace a human CISO?
It takes on the CISO's job for companies that don't have one: running the program, writing, following up. It isn't a person: it can't sign, be held liable, or sit in front of a regulator. When you need that, you need a human.
Can QoBot work with our vCISO?
Yes. QoBot does the routine work between visits (questionnaires, policies, follow-ups), so the vCISO's days go to judgment and to the people.
Does QoBot collect evidence automatically like compliance platforms?
QoBot works from your workspace: it lists the evidence each control needs, tells you where to get it, and never marks a control as done without it. Continuous collection from your tools is where compliance platforms are strongest.
How much does QoBot cost?
The desktop app is free; you use your own AI (a Claude subscription, or an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Mistral) and pay that provider directly. Cloud and Team plans will be paid, and they're coming later.
